During the British occupation the Dutch stil continued to build new settlements and supply their established ones. In addition to their villages in Bergen and Hudson Counties they added villages in Raritan Valley. Some of the new Dutch settlements also included French settlers who previously emigrated from France to Holland also looking for more freedom. In 1673 the Dutch took back control of their previous colonies including Manhattan Island. It ended less than a year later with a treaty signed in London, February 1674 restoring New York and New Jersey back to the English.
