Quaker Control

In 1676 the Quintipartite Deed was signed between Carteret on one side and the then four controlling Quakers on the other side. It established the area of the provenience of East Jersey as 2981 sq miles owned by George Carteret, and the provenience of West Jersey as 4595 sq miles owned by four Quakers (One of which was William Penn), and it drew a line from Little Egg Harbor to the Delaware Water Gap.
